Renowned Nollywood actress Morenike Alausa, popularly known as Mama Ereko, has shared why she chose to remain single after losing her husband.
In a recent interview on Talk2Dunnis TV on YouTube, the 79-year-old actress explained that she decided not to remarry to maintain her youthful appearance. She believes that marriage, with its physical, emotional, and sexual demands, can make women age faster.
Marriage can accelerate aging, she says
Mama Ereko strongly argued that the pressures of marriage can take a toll on a woman’s health and looks. According to her, many women experience premature aging because of the stress that comes with relationships. She stated that being in a marriage often means sacrificing personal well-being to meet the needs of a partner.
“If I had remarried, you wouldn’t be admiring my elegant and beautiful look at my age,” she said.
She believes that staying single has given her peace of mind and allowed her to focus on herself. Without the daily struggles of managing a marriage, she has been able to maintain her beauty and well-being.
“I have become a man”
The veteran actress made it clear that she no longer desires a romantic relationship. She explained that after so many years of living alone, she has adapted to an independent lifestyle.
“I didn’t remarry because the stress of intercourse makes people look older than their age. I don’t need a man again because I have already turned into a man. I can’t even remember how it feels to have sex anymore,” she added.
Her statement suggests that she has grown emotionally and mentally stronger on her own. She believes that women do not always need men to feel complete.

Sparking debate among fans
Mama Ereko’s decision has sparked conversations among fans and social media users. While some people praised her for prioritizing her well-being, others questioned whether marriage truly leads to aging.
Many supporters agree with her view, stating that marriage can be stressful, especially for women. They believe that the expectations placed on wives can take a toll on their health. Others, however, argue that a happy marriage can provide companionship and emotional support, which can also contribute to a person’s overall well-being.
Focused on career and happiness
Despite differing opinions, Mama Ereko remains firm in her choice. She continues to focus on her career, health, and personal happiness.
The veteran actress has been in Nollywood for decades and is widely respected for her contributions to the industry. She remains active in the entertainment world, proving that life after marriage can still be fulfilling. Her story serves as an example of how personal decisions about relationships can shape a person’s life in different ways.
