President Bola Tinubu has reiterated the need for unity as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s national progress, urging leaders to prioritise collaboration and dialogue in addressing the country’s challenges.
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday at the Kogi Dialogue, an event marking Governor Usman Ododo’s first year in office, the President likened the natural confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue in Lokoja to the strength derived from unity.
“The confluence of these rivers is not just a geographical event; it is a divine lesson in strength and continuity,” Tinubu stated.
“Just as water merging with water becomes stronger, so must we as leaders and citizens merge our efforts to build a united and prosperous Nigeria.”
The President commended Governor Ododo for initiating the Kogi Dialogue, describing it as a visionary step towards fostering reconciliation and progress.

He urged leaders at all levels to build bridges, prioritise dialogue, and reject division, emphasising that unity is the only path to achieving national development.
“Dialogue is not just an opportunity to air grievances; it is the true path to justice, reconciliation, and understanding. Without dialogue, history will pass us by, leaving us abandoned by time and forgotten by progress,” he said.

Acknowledging the economic and security challenges facing the nation, President Tinubu highlighted the need for selfless leadership during turbulent times.
He called on Nigerians to see themselves as integral threads in the fabric of national progress, urging leaders to rise above personal ambitions and prioritize the welfare of the people.
In his remarks, Governor Ododo appreciated President Tinubu and the people of Kogi State for their support over the past year.
He highlighted the state’s rich natural resources and cultural diversity, calling for their effective management to drive prosperity and transformation.
The governor also outlined key achievements of his administration, including improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
The event also featured remarks from prominent figures, including APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, who praised the cordial relationship between Governor Ododo and his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, as a model for other states.
