Spotify, an online music streaming platform, has partnered with the Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Asake, on the promotion of skateboarding in Nigeria.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday.
Okumu said that the partnership entailed Asake taking over Spotify’s Skate Noise playlist.
“Afrobeats superstar, Asake is taking over Spotify’s Skate Noise playlist, putting Nigeria’s vibrant skate scene front and centre.
“Known for his passion for skateboarding, Asake will be bringing fresh energy to the playlist, celebrating the diverse, inclusive culture at the heart of Nigerian skateboarding.
“Inspired by Lagos’ emerging skate crews, including the pioneering Dencity collective, Asake’s takeover merges music and movement, embodying the rhythm and resilience of the streets.
“His track “Skating” encapsulates the pulse of the scene, making him the perfect artiste to inspire the next generation of Nigerian skaters.
“Music and skateboarding are incredibly creative forces, and Spotify recognises the powerful connection between them.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Asake, an artiste whose love for skating shines through his music,”she said.
According to Okumu, Spotify’s Skate Noise playlist had become a global platform where music and skate culture collide.
She said that with Asake at the helm, the current edition would bring fans together for a high-energy celebration of skateboarding, music, and self-expression in Nigeria.
She urged music lovers to discover Asake’s Skate Noise playlist and immerse themselves in Nigeria’s skate culture like never before.
