Renowned Afrobeat singer and accomplished instrumentalist Femi Kuti, along with the Grammy Award-winning vocalist and songwriter 9ice, has officially joined the lineup of performers for the 20th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
Mr. Tony Anih, the Chief Operating Officer of AMAA, disclosed this thrilling news during a recent press briefing held at the AMAA secretariat located in Ikeja, GRA, Lagos.
This milestone edition promises to be an extraordinary celebration of African cinema, infused with vibrant musical performances from some of the continent’s most esteemed artists.
According to Anih, this year’s ceremony will highlight significant performances from acclaimed musical talents spanning various genres across Africa.
Among the performers are Nigeria’s own Yinka Davies, the talented singer-songwriter Adina from Ghana, and the exceptionally skilled guitarist Naird, also hailing from Ghana.
This eclectic mix of artists embodies the rich diversity of contemporary African music and adds a unique flair to the prestigious event.
Mr. Kingsley James, the technical director for AMAA, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming ceremony, declaring, “It will be a night to remember! All hands are on deck to ensure that this year’s edition stands out both in entertainment and organization.”
He continued, “We are thrilled to present an impeccable African lineup that will undoubtedly enthral all attendees. The show will be hosted by Nigeria’s esteemed actor Segun Arinze and Ghana’s captivating television personality Joselyn Dumas.”
He emphasized that musical highlights would be headlined by the legendary Femi Kuti and the celebrated Gongo Aso artist, 9ice.
Beyond these stars, the lineup is further enriched with performances from the likes of Yinka Davies, Narh Tettey, Bedwei Kwaku, and Adina Thembi.
To elevate the musical experience, DJ Kenchello and the Ebony Band will also take to the stage, ensuring an unforgettable atmosphere for the attendees.
Scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, this spectacular awards ceremony will unfold at the prestigious Balmoral Convention Centre, situated within the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
Preceding this grand event is an anticipated gathering called the African Legends Night, which will occur on Friday, November 1, at the Amore Garden in Lekki Phase I, Lagos.
This special night aims to honour the legacy of African cinema and its pioneers. In a heartfelt statement, Mr Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe, expressing his commitment to the event, emphasized that “We are not just rolling out in a big way; we are intentionally focusing on making the 20th edition one of the most remarkable AMAAs that Africans will celebrate.
This event embodies the vision of our late sister and founder, Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe, who always aspired to gather over 60 African film practitioners and creatives before her passing.
We are determined to actualize her dream to the glory of God, carrying forward the legacy of PMO while aiming for groundbreaking achievements within the African film sector.”
The list of esteemed guests expected to grace this momentous occasion is star-studded, featuring personalities such as Ghana’s Lydia Forson and Jackie Appiah, Kenya’s Kenneth Ambani, and Burkina Faso’s Charles Koutou.
Notable Nigerian figures like Chinedu Ikeduze and Osita Iheme will also be present, alongside a multitude of stars from across the continent, including Ghana’s Michael Majid and Adjetey Anang, as well as Morris Sam and Zuby Micheals, among many others.
