The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard M. Doro, has called on Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, compassion, generosity, and unity as Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Adha.
In his Eid message, Doro said the celebration should remind citizens of the values needed to build a peaceful, caring, and inclusive society.
“As we celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, may this season of sacrifice, devotion, and compassion bring peace, prosperity, and blessings to you and your family,” the minister said.
He urged Nigerians to reflect on the deeper meaning of the celebration, especially at a time when many families are dealing with economic hardship and social challenges.
“May the lessons of sacrifice and generosity inspire us to continue building a more caring, just, and inclusive society for all,” he added.
Doro also extended the traditional greeting, “Barka da Sallah,” to Muslim faithful and other Nigerians celebrating with them.

The minister’s message comes as the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction continues to push reforms aimed at strengthening humanitarian response, social protection, and poverty reduction programmes across the country.
In recent engagements, Doro has stressed the need for stronger partnerships, better coordination, and long-term solutions to support vulnerable Nigerians.

He recently received Elizabeth McGarva, Head of the Security, Stability and Humanitarian Group at the British High Commission, alongside her colleagues, during a meeting with members of his senior technical team.
The discussions focused on the ministry’s reform priorities, including the development of the One Humanitarian and One Poverty Response System, known as OHOPRS. The meeting also covered government-led humanitarian response frameworks, transition planning, and sustainable financing for humanitarian, social protection, and poverty reduction programmes.
According to the minister, the engagement showed the need for stronger collaboration between government and development partners in building accountable and long-term systems that can respond to vulnerability and humanitarian challenges across Nigeria.

Doro also received the leadership of Enhancing Financial Inclusion and Advancement, EFINA, during a separate strategic engagement focused on sustainable poverty reduction, financial inclusion, and stronger social protection systems.
The meeting explored the role of inclusive financial systems, digital public infrastructure, data integration, and partnerships in creating long-term pathways out of poverty for vulnerable Nigerians.
Doro said the ministry and its partners discussed ways to strengthen OHOPRS through institutional frameworks that can support transparency, sustainability, and wider participation from the private sector and development partners.
He said the ministry is committed to moving beyond short-term interventions by building systems that empower people through financial access, education, skills development, and economic inclusion.
The minister added that the ministry would continue to build partnerships that support practical, data-driven, and sustainable solutions to strengthen resilience and expand opportunities for Nigerians.
