The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong support for the emergence of Kingsley Chinda as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, describing him as a “politically experienced material” capable of leading the state.
Wike made the remarks on Monday during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja, where he also commended the pace and quality of work being carried out by various contractors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
According to him, Chinda possesses the experience and political exposure required for effective governance, having served in both the executive and legislative arms of government.
“A good product markets itself. Everybody knows that Kingsley Chinda is the material. He is quite experienced. He has worked with the executive and now in the legislature,” Wike said.
He added that Chinda’s political background and public recognition made his emergence as a governorship candidate unsurprising, noting that competence and track record should remain key considerations in leadership selection.
Infrastructure projects nearing completion in Abuja
During the tour, Wike also expressed satisfaction with the level of progress recorded across several major infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory, stating that many of them were ready for commissioning.
He said the developments reflected the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to delivering visible governance through infrastructure renewal.
“I think today is one of the happiest days. The projects we inspected, obviously, they are ready for inauguration,” he said.
The minister first visited the Renewed Hope City road project in Karsana, which he said was about 98 per cent completed. He commended Lubriks Construction Company for what he described as high-quality delivery and adherence to timelines.

He also inspected the Old Keffi Road and Dei-Dei road projects, noting that asphalt laying had been largely completed while streetlight installation was ongoing.
At the Airport Road to Kuje Road project handled by Arab Contractors, Wike described the work as “fantastic,” adding that the road would significantly improve connectivity and boost economic activities within the area.
“I’m sure anybody who goes there will admire it and that is what is called governance,” he said, praising the contractors involved.
At the Kuje–Gwagwalada road project being executed by Gilmor Engineering Limited, Wike said ongoing infrastructure development had already transformed the landscape of the region, improving accessibility and economic prospects.
He also visited the City Gate project handled by Julius Berger, describing it as a major transformation of the capital’s entrance.
According to him, the project—initiated under the influence of Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu—would significantly redefine the visual identity of Abuja, particularly at night.
“When you have a good woman who means well for the administration of her husband… this is her brainchild,” Wike said.
He added that the contractor had assured completion by late May or early June, expressing confidence that deadlines would be met.
“Anybody who passes here in the night will see a different city when they are coming in. They will know they are coming to the capital of Nigeria,” he said.
