Nottingham Forest’s disciplinary woes continue as the FA handed a five-match stadium ban to Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis as a sanction for misconduct. Recall that the Greek billionaire and investor was charged by the FA for improperly conducting himself around the tunnel area following his club’s one-nil loss to Fulham on September 28 and has been found guilty by an independent regulatory commission.
In the same vein, Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has been handed a three-match touchline ban and a fine of £55,000 for misconduct in a different game. The manager’s charge was for misconduct in the club’s 2-2 draw with Brighton earlier in September where, according to the FA, he “acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a march official.”
Espírito Santo’s sanction includes a two-match ban for the misconduct against Brighton and an added ban from an earlier suspended charge.
The manager has expressed surprise at the severity of the sanction. He said, “There’s nothing we can do. It’s not for me to judge, my job is to move forward and make sure the coaching staff are ready to help the team. We had a hearing, everything was normal. The sanction has been decided. Let’s go.”
In addition to Marinakis and Espírito Santo, Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White also received a one-match ban and £20,000 fine got misconduct against the fourth official after he was sent off against Brighton. Forest had been hit with a £750,000 fine earlier this month for posting on their social media a complaint about VAR Stuart Attwell.
On the other hand, Brighton’s manager was also sanctioned with an £8,000 fine for acting improperly.
