President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, as he celebrates his 71st birthday today, coinciding with the eighth anniversary of his ascension to the throne.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the Oba’s reign as the 40th monarch of Benin, highlighting the new era of peace, understanding, and civility that has emerged under his leadership since his coronation in 2016.
The President acknowledged Oba Ewuare II’s distinguished career in diplomacy, noting that his previous roles as Nigeria’s Ambassador to several countries including Angola, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Italy have greatly influenced his leadership style. Tinubu commended the monarch’s ability to lead with wisdom and grace, shaped by his diplomatic experience.
Moreover, President Tinubu lauded Oba Ewuare II’s unwavering commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Benin Kingdom. He specifically mentioned the Oba’s tireless efforts in recovering priceless artefacts, which are vital symbols of the Kingdom’s history and identity.
“His courage and unwavering commitment to preserving his domain’s rich cultural heritage and tradition is commendable,” said Tinubu.
“The King’s relentless efforts to explore international networks for the return of priceless artefacts reflect his deep love for his people.”
The President also appreciated the monarch’s wise counsel to both private and public sector leaders and his advocacy for participatory democracy and development.
He emphasised that Oba Ewuare II’s promotion of civic responsibility and active democratic participation continues to inspire hope for a brighter future.
