Delegates of the African Democratic Congress have approved amendments to the party’s constitution and ratified a new National Working Committee (NWC) led by David Mark at its national convention in Abuja.
The outcome was announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Sub-Committee, Emeka Ihedioha, who disclosed that 1,576 delegates were accredited for the exercise, with 11 votes declared void.
Ihedioha said 1,471 delegates voted in favour of the constitutional amendment, representing 94 percent support.
“Distinguished delegates, by virtue of this result announced, it means that the constitution of the African Democratic Congress has today been duly amended by this convention,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Legal and Convention Processes Committee, Olumide Akpata, supervised the ratification of resolutions from the party’s 97th, 98th, and 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
The motion for adoption of the resolutions was moved by Enyinnaya Abaribe, while Ireti Kingibe moved the motion for the adoption of the 100th NEC meeting held on March 25, 2026. Both were adopted through a voice vote.
The National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, outlined key resolutions from the convention, including a waiver of membership requirements, suspension of zoning provisions for executive positions, and suspension of rules requiring replacements for vacant offices to come from the same zone.
In his closing remarks, David Mark described the convention as one of the best he had attended.
“Today marks the beginning of our journey to the villa and all of you are part of this history,” he said.
Earlier in the proceedings, the party expelled Nafiu Bala over alleged anti-party activities. Other expelled members include Leke Abejide, Elias Adiukeu, Kenneth Ehiator, Kingsley Temitope, Obinna Norman, Kennedy Odiong, and Stella Chukwuma.
