There are strong indications that the current Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, may emerge the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State.
Checks by New Daily Prime showed that Hazmat on Tuesday was able to secure the endorsement of the Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, a team of party leaders in the state.
The issue of consensus, it was gathered, arose out of what the APC leaders were able to achieve in Ogun State where on Monday night, they agreed to Senator Solomon Adeola being the consensus governorship candidate of the party.
At Tuesday’s meeting of GAC, a member, Otunba Alebiosu (popularly known as Baba Bush), was overwhelmed with joy following that major political development in Lagos State.
Before the recent development, a number of aspirants including Education Minister, Dr Tunji Alausa; former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, the Private Secretary to the President, Hon. Habeeb Muri-Okunola; Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, were among those being touted.
However, the above listed persons, except Ambode, who are currently public office holders, failed to resign last month as directed by President Bola Tinubu.
The New Daily Prime reported on Monday that Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, was announced as the preferred governorship candidate of the APC for the 2027 elections in Ogun state.
Abiodun made the announcement on Monday during a party caucus meeting in Abeokuta, saying the decision followed extensive consultations among party leaders.
He noted that the endorsement was aimed at promoting unity within the APC and ensuring continuity in governance, describing Adeola as a candidate with the experience and political reach to lead the state.
