The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed as false and malicious widespread rumours that its National Chairman, Senator David Mark, has stepped down from his position.

In a strongly worded statement issued by the party’s Media Office on Sunday, the ADC described the reports as “an insidious fabrication” deliberately spread by “puerile, weak, and inconsiderate propagandists” seeking to sow confusion within its ranks.

The party insisted that Senator Mark “remains the substantive National Chairman” and that neither he nor the ADC leadership has contemplated his resignation at any time.
The development reflects broader trends in APC political updates across Nigeria.
“The assertion that Senator David Mark has stepped down exists only in the warped imagination of those bent on spreading falsehood and creating confusion within our party,” the statement read.
ADC officials emphasised that the party’s leadership remains fully united, focused and resolute in its mission to strengthen democratic values and offer credible leadership to Nigerians.
They warned that the rumours were part of a broader attempt to destabilise the party, driven by growing anxiety over the ADC’s rising influence and the political realignments expected ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The ADC, its leadership, and the majority of Nigerians are unbending in their collective determination to resist any plot aimed at undermining Nigeria’s multi-party democracy or imposing a one-party system,” the statement added.
The party urged Nigerians to ignore the rumours and maintain confidence in its stability and direction. It reaffirmed its commitment to democratic ideals and vowed to continue working towards providing genuine political alternatives for the country.
Senator David Mark, a former Senate President, assumed the role of ADC National Chairman last year as the party positioned itself as a major opposition force.
The latest denial comes amid intensifying speculation about opposition coalitions and potential defections in the run-up to the next presidential and parliamentary polls.
