Afrobeats singer Omah Stanley Didia, popularly known as Omah Lay, has claimed that the global popularity of Afrobeats, particularly in Western countries, is beginning to decline.
Speaking during his Lagos Warehouse session, the singer said the level of excitement and acceptance the genre enjoyed abroad between 2020 and 2024 is no longer the same.

“Overseas, Afrobeats is declining. It is facts,” he said. “The Afrobeats that you guys used to know in 2020-2024 are not the Afrobeats you know now anymore.”
According to Omah Lay, although Nigerian artistes are still performing well internationally, the genre itself is no longer enjoying the same momentum it once had.
The singer said he has been studying some of the music legends he admires in an effort to find ways to help revive the Nigerian music scene.
Omah Lay also expressed confidence that his future music will influence other artistes to improve their craft and help restore Afrobeats’ global appeal.
His comments are likely to spark debate among fans and industry observers, especially as Afrobeats stars such as Damini Ogulu, Ayodeji Balogun and David Adeleke continue to enjoy success on the international stage.
