According to Omah Lay, while he may not be the strongest performer visually, he believes his songwriting and musical ability place him above his peers.
“I am the best in this sh*t,” he said. “I am not the strongest when it comes to visual maybe due to my personality. But when it comes to the art of making music, I am the best in the last 20 years.”
The singer added that the only Afrobeats artiste he considers to be on the same level as himself is Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy.
“The only person I sometimes put myself with is Burna Boy. Burna is talented. Apart from Burna, it is me,” he said.
Omah Lay also said he dislikes being grouped with other artists in the same category, insisting that he sees himself as the greatest of his generation.
His remarks have already sparked reactions among fans of other leading Afrobeats stars, with many debating whether he deserves to be ranked alongside or above artists such as David Adeleke, Ayodeji Balogun and Burna Boy.
