The All Progressives Congress (APC) North-Central Forum has raised an alarm over what it considers as deliberate marginalisation of its members.
This development followed the forum’s successful efforts to bring the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, into the party.
The forum, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, expressed disappointment that their hard work is being met with exclusion instead of appreciation.
The group, led by the Chairman Saleh Zazzaga, explained that they were the primary force behind Muftwang’s decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Muftwang officially joined the APC in January, along with his entire executive council.
However, despite this win for the party, the forum suggested that National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda is acting with dissatisfaction towards those who championed the move.
The party declared, “We want to place it on . . . record that the National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda is sidelining our members in the APC Northcentral Forum . . . . . Rather than appreciate our contributions, he is sidelining our members despite our contributions to the development of the party . . .”
Reaction from the party suggested that the Yilwatda is holding a grudge against the party members.
It was noted that the forum was the same group that fought to ensure the national chairmanship stayed in the North-Central zone.
They stated that while Yilwatda had vowed to support Muftwang, his actions suggest a desire to reduce the forum’s influence within the party.
But it was clarified that Yilwatda’s leadership is not being challenged by anybody.
The forum noted, “Governor Muftwang took him as a brother and is not opposing his position as party national chairman. Even as members of the APC Northcentral Forum, we are not against him continuing as the national chairman because we know what it took us to fight for the position.”
Also, the party claimed that bringing Muftwang into the APC was a move intended to foster unity and progress in Plateau State.
It described politics as a “game of interests” that requires maturity and understanding rather than internal friction.
To prevent further division, the forum called on President Bola Tinubu and other senior party elders to step in.
They urged Tinubu to take a direct role in vetting candidates for the upcoming national convention to ensure that future officers are unifiers.
The group noted that resolving these internal issues is important for the party’s success in the coming elections.
