The Federal Government (FG) has announced Thursday, 19 March, and Friday, 20 March, 2026, as public holidays in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the Ramadan fast.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, disclosed this on behalf of the government, congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Minister urged adherents of Islam to continue embracing the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice practised during Ramadan.
He also called on Nigerians to use the occasion to offer prayers for the nation’s peace, unity and sustained development.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, 19th March, and Friday, 20th March 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement read.
While wishing Muslims a joyful Eid celebration, Tunji-Ojo advised citizens to celebrate in moderation and remember the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to strengthening national unity and fostering peaceful coexistence across the country.
