The family of veteran Nigerian gospel singer Deborah Fasoyin has dismissed widespread rumours circulating on social media that she has died, describing the reports as entirely false.
The singer’s son, Korede Fasoyin, refuted the claims on Monday during a conversation, stating clearly that his mother is alive and in good health.
False reports of Fasoyin’s death began trending online over the weekend, with several social media posts displaying her photograph accompanied by “RIP” captions. The misleading posts quickly spread across multiple platforms, prompting an outpouring of condolence messages from concerned fans and followers.
Korede Fasoyin explained that the family was surprised by the rumour and had been inundated with calls from friends, relatives, and well-wishers both in Nigeria and abroad seeking confirmation.
“My mother is alive. The news of her death is fake. We are already doing a video for her to speak,” he said.
According to him, the calls began arriving shortly after midnight as the false information gained traction online.
“I started receiving calls from outside Nigeria and within Nigeria since midnight, asking if she was dead. I don’t know the mischievous person who posted that without verifying,” he added.
To address the confusion and reassure supporters, the family has begun preparing a video message in which the elderly singer will personally confirm that she is alive.
Deborah Fasoyin recently marked her 86th birthday on 1 March 2026, an occasion celebrated by admirers and members of the church community who regard her as one of the enduring voices in Nigerian gospel music.
A respected member of the Christ Apostolic Church, Fasoyin is widely known for her popular Yoruba gospel song Odun n Lo Sopin. The song has remained a staple in many Nigerian churches and continues to resonate with worshippers decades after its release.
Over the years, her music has maintained a strong influence within gospel circles, earning her recognition across generations of church music lovers. Her songs are frequently performed during church services, anniversaries and other religious gatherings.
The Fasoyin family has urged the public to disregard the false reports and to verify information before sharing it online, emphasising that the veteran singer remains alive and appreciative of the concern shown by her supporters.
