Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan Oshodi has been appointed to the board of World Table Tennis (WTT), making history as the first African to serve as a full director on the organisation’s governing board.
WTT oversees the commercial arm of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), managing professional competitions and global promotion of the sport.
The appointment was ratified during a meeting of the ITTF executive board on March 1 at WTT headquarters in Singapore.
After portfolio responsibilities were assigned, ITTF president Petra Sörling and executive vice president Oshodi were selected to represent the federation on the WTT board.
Sörling was subsequently confirmed as chair of the board, taking over the position previously held by Liu Guoliang of China and Khalil Al-Mohannadi of Qatar.
The ITTF, which holds a majority stake in WTT, said the appointments underscore its duty to ensure the commercial platform continues to create sustainable benefits for the sport and its 227 member associations worldwide.
“ITTF has always been the foundation on which table tennis thrives, and WTT is our instrument to take it further,” Sörling said, pledging strong governance, accountability and long-term vision.
Oshodi, who also serves as president of ITTF Africa, said he is eager to contribute to strengthening governance while supporting the organisation’s long-term growth.
Established in 2019, WTT was designed to transform professional table tennis by introducing a commercially driven structure aimed at expanding the sport’s global visibility and appeal.
Oshodi first gained prominence as president of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, where he implemented reforms focused on governance, transparency, and grassroots development.
He later rose to lead ITTF Africa, where he played a key role in elevating the continent’s influence in global table tennis.
His appointment is widely regarded as a significant step forward for African representation in international sports administration.
