Veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has opened up about the intense backlash she experienced after starring in the classic film Glamour Girls 2 nearly three decades ago.
Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the actress recalled how many viewers struggled to separate her real personality from the character she portrayed in the movie.

In the film, Anunobi played the role of Anita, a bold and seductive escort whose actions in the storyline sparked strong reactions among audiences at the time.
According to the actress, the role led to widespread criticism and negative labels from members of the public who assumed her on-screen character reflected her real-life personality.
“I faced a lot of backlash for my role in Glamour Girls 2,” she said.
She explained that during that period, many people publicly claimed not to watch films with controversial themes, yet they still judged her harshly for the role she played.
“You know, at that time the Nigerian populace pretended that they don’t watch such movies. So, a lot of people were labelling me. They called me Sharon Stone, Mammy Water, Husband Snatcher,” she said.
Anunobi noted that the character she portrayed in the film was a student who became involved with a wealthy married man, a storyline that contributed to the perception that she was a seductress in real life.
“The character I played was a student who snatched a wealthy man from his wife. So, a lot of people were seeing me as a seductress,” she explained.
The actress acknowledged that she has an alluring presence but emphasised that the role was purely a performance based on a script.
“Well, I am very alluring. I can’t deny that because if I deny myself that means I am denying God,” she said.
She added that the public reaction became so intense that some women grew suspicious whenever they saw her around their partners.
“A lot of people were like that leave your man with Eucharia, she’s going to take him away. It was crazy to the point that if women see me when they are with their men, they hold them tightly,” she said.
Despite the backlash, Anunobi emphasised that she was simply doing her job as an actress and bringing a scripted character to life.
The veteran actress also revealed that she received additional payment for a memorable bathtub scene she filmed with fellow actor Zack Orji in the movie, a moment that became one of the film’s most talked-about scenes.
Her reflection sheds light on the challenges actors sometimes face when audiences blur the line between fiction and reality, especially in roles that portray controversial or morally complex characters.
