British authorities have warned that anyone who violates temporary airspace restrictions during the state visit of Bola Tinubu could face arrest.
The warning was issued as security agencies in the United Kingdom (UK) prepare for the Nigerian leader’s visit to Windsor, where he is expected to meet Charles III at Windsor Castle.
According to Thames Valley Police, strict airspace restrictions will be enforced over Windsor on March 18 as part of security measures for the high-profile visit.
The restrictions will run from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., forming part of a wider security operation around the royal residence and nearby areas.
Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall said the authorities would not tolerate any breach of the rules.
Hall said, “We will be taking a strong stance in enforcing the restrictions. Anyone who breaches them will be committing a criminal offence under the Air Navigation Order and could be arrested.”
He explained that the move was necessary to protect both visiting dignitaries and members of the public during the event.
Security agencies are also expected to deploy specialist teams across Windsor. These include search teams, mounted police officers, road policing units and armed officers.
According to Hall, the operation will also involve neighbourhood policing teams and personnel from Project Servator, a security initiative designed to deter and detect criminal activity.
Authorities said additional safety measures will include hostile vehicle barriers and an expanded network of surveillance cameras to monitor activities in the area.
Officials have advised residents and visitors to comply with all security instructions throughout the period of the visit.
President Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, are expected to arrive in the United Kingdom on 18 March for the state engagement with the British monarch.
