Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has described her move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a personal journey.
She made this known in an interview on the Channels Television programme, The Morning Brief.
Obasanjo-Bello recently joined the party in Ogun State to prepare for the 2027 governorship election. She said she did not feel the need to consult her parents before making the move. She explained that she is capable of making her own career choices.
Although she acknowledged her father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, she still insisted that her entry into the APC is about her own path.
She said, “My joining the APC is a personal journey for me.”
Obasanjo-Bello, nonetheless, expressed a great deal of confidence that both her father and mother will vote for her when the time comes.
She said, “My father, I know, and my mother will vote for me; that’s all that I can ask of them. Even if I don’t ask, they will vote for me; that I can guarantee.”
She also declared that she chose the APC because it feels like a “natural home” where she is comfortable. She mentioned that she had been away from active politics for about 15 years.
Before making her comeback, she looked at other parties like the PDP and ADC. She decided against the PDP because of its internal problems and felt the APC was the best platform for her goals.
Currently, she is focused on securing the APC ticket. She said the party has provided a fair environment for all aspirants and denied that any specific person has been handpicked by the state leadership yet.
