Nollywood actor Benedict Johnson has revealed that he went five years without landing a single movie role, describing the period as one of the most challenging seasons of his career.
In a viral video recorded at Streams of Joy International, the actor recounted how he struggled professionally, lamenting that no filmmakers reached out to him for productions during that time.

Johnson explained that, unlike conventional employment, where one can seek clarification after losing a job, the film industry operates differently. According to him, actors may stop receiving calls without explanation.
“For five good years as a seasoned actor, I never had any job to do. Our industry is not like an employment where you can walk up to your director and say, ‘What’s happening?’ why was I fired? This one, silently, nobody calls you for a job. For five years, I had no job to do. I kept believing in God,” he said.
The actor disclosed that during the difficult period, he decided to relocate to Abuja to attend prayer programmes at Streams of Joy International, led by Pastor Jerry Eze. Johnson said he had been following the church’s online prayer platform, NSPPD, but felt compelled to attend physically.
“At the time, I decided to move down to Abuja because of NSPPD. I was following online, but I said to myself I would come to Abuja so I could see Pastor Jerry every Sunday, watch him, stay with him, stare in his face and ask God to bless me through him,” he stated.
Johnson acknowledged that some of his colleagues cautioned him against the move, arguing that Abuja was not a major hub for film production compared to Lagos or other entertainment centres. However, he said he trusted his faith and proceeded with the relocation.
“Some of my colleagues said, ‘Benedict, Abuja is not a film place. If you go to Abuja, nobody will call you’. I said, ‘Don’t worry,’ and I came down here,” he added.
According to the actor, his situation has since changed significantly. He revealed that in the current year alone, he has completed twelve projects, marking a dramatic turnaround in his fortunes.
“Fast forward to now: this year alone, I have done twelve jobs already. We did 21 days of fasting and prayers this January, and I was right here praying. God opened my way, and I started doing jobs,” he said.
Johnson further disclosed that he is scheduled to travel to Germany and the United States for upcoming movie projects, expressing gratitude and attributing his renewed success to divine intervention.
“I intend to return all the glory to God,” he concluded.
His testimony has since drawn reactions online, with many praising his perseverance and faith during a prolonged career drought.
