The number of annual visitors to the Olumo Rock Tourist Centre in Ogun State is projected to rise from 20,000 to over 100,000 in 2025, with renovation works scheduled for completion ahead of the National Sports Festival in May.
In April, the state government announced that the iconic site, located in Abeokuta—the state capital—would be temporarily closed from 14 April to undergo renovation and a major facelift.
According to the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Sesan Fagbayi, the renovation aims to boost tourism and preserve the state’s cultural heritage.

The projected increase in tourist numbers follows a newly formed partnership between the Ogun State Government and the renowned Nike Art Gallery, founded by Chief Nike Davies-Okundaye.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who disclosed the collaboration during a courtesy visit by Davies-Okundaye to his office in Abeokuta, stated that the Olumo Rock complex will be transformed into a dedicated art exhibition space.
He explained that the gallery will feature works curated by Nike Art Gallery, adding that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalise cultural tourism across the state.
To further enhance tourism, the governor also highlighted plans to promote other key attractions such as the Adire Market, the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, and the ancestral homes of national icons including MKO Abiola and the Ransome-Kuti family.
The governor further highlighted ongoing state support for the Adire industry, including the provision of solar-powered equipment, the launch of the Adire Ogun Digital Marketplace, and a policy mandating the wearing of Adire fabrics in official settings.

However, Chief Davies-Okundaye affirmed her foundation’s readiness to attract international attention to the revamped Olumo Rock site.
She noted that the gallery is likely to draw visits from foreign dignitaries, as has been the case at its Abuja location.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging culture, art, and tourism as instruments for economic development and global engagement.
