Wolverhampton Wanderers have secured the signing of defender Emmanuel Agbadou from French club Reims in a £16.6m deal.
The 27-year-old Ivory Coast international has agreed to a four-and-a-half-year contract at Molineux, with an option to extend for an additional year. Agbadou is the first signing under new head coach Vitor Pereira and signals the club’s intent to strengthen their squad amid a relegation battle.
Sporting director Matt Hobbs praised Agbadou’s tenacity, saying, “Emmanuel’s a winner and unbelievably hungry. Wolves fans will love him because he gives absolutely everything.”
The move concludes Wolves’ pursuit of Lens defender Kevin Danso as they prioritized Agbadou to bolster their backline after losing captain Max Kilman to West Ham in the summer and Yerson Mosquera to a season-ending injury.
Agbadou brings experience from his time in Ligue 1, where he made 76 appearances and scored three goals for Reims. His arrival is timely for Wolves, who have conceded a league-high 45 goals this season and sit just above the relegation zone on goal difference.
Wolves face Bristol City in the FA Cup on Saturday before returning to Premier League action against Newcastle on 15 January.
