A lot was at stake as Manchester United marched out at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon to face Brentford, who were three places above them on the Premier League table. Erik ten Hag’s men went behind before a second-half comeback earned them all three points. Brentford had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time when Ethan Pinnock’s header beat Andre Onana at goal.
Ten Hag’s men went for the halftime break behind by a goal before rallying in the second half and getting an equalizer via an Alejandro Garnacho goal in the 47th minute. The Red Devils went ahead in the 62nd minute when Rasmus Hojlund gave them the lead to end a five-game winless run. The pressure on manager ten Hag to earn results will be eased going into United’s Europa League encounter with Fenerbahce on October 24.
The Red Devils dominated the encounter and held ball possession for longer spells with a lot of chances they could have converted.
Argentina international Garnacho came close to breaking the tie a couple of times before eventually getting a break in the second half, bringing his tally to five goals this season. Similarly, we saw a full display of what the team missed in Hojlund’s absence as he was too much for Brentford’s defence to handle, handing United the much-needed victory.
