Liverpool manager Arne Slot has refused to offer a definite answer to the question of an important trio’s future at the club. The question came up on the future of Virgil van Dijk, Mohammed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold at Slot’s pre-match press conference today.
The three players, who have been important pillars to the recent success of the club, are on the last lap of their current contracts with the club which run out next summer. In response to the question about their continued stay at the club beyond summer, the gaffer avoided a direct answer. He said,
“I’m very happy that these players are in my team at the moment. There’s a lot of games this season and in the upcoming weeks. Let’s see what happens in the future.
However, the trainer expressed his pleasure at the club’s start to life under his leadership. He said, “Overall it’s been a good start, not perfect. Should have won against Forest.”
He continued, “Fixture list has been good to us. Although maybe 17 or 18 games, these teams maybe come up the table. Good start, not perfect.”
Liverpool’s only loss of the ongoing Premier League season came against Nottingham Forest earlier in September. Heading into their next fixture against Wolves who currently sit at the bottom of the league table with just a point, Slot wished his opponents good luck, but not until after their game. He said, “They will be fine this season, hopefully not tomorrow.”
The coach also shared a hopeful piece of news about a possible return for Alisson Becker against Wolves this weekend. He said, “We think he is ready. He trained yesterday as part of our session with the group and we’re expecting him to do the whole session training today.” The Brazilian goalkeeper missed Liverpool’s victory against Bournemouth due to a muscle injury.
