Chelsea striker Sam Kerr and West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis have announced that they are expecting their first child together. The couple shared the news via Kerr’s Instagram account with a post reading, “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!”

The 33-year-old Mewis is carrying the baby, marking a joyous milestone in their relationship.

West Ham United celebrated the announcement, posting on Instagram:

“A huge congratulations to Kristie and her partner Sam, who have announced they are expecting their first child.”

Sam Kerr, 31, is Australia’s all-time leading goalscorer and a global icon in women’s football. She has been instrumental in Chelsea’s dominance, winning five consecutive Women’s Super League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups, and the Community Shield. Despite her remarkable achievements, Kerr has been sidelined since January due to a knee ligament injury.

Kristie Mewis, an accomplished midfielder for the USA, has earned 53 caps for her national team. She joined West Ham United from NJ/NY Gotham FC in December 2022 and has since become a key player for the team.

While the baby news marks a joyous chapter, it comes amid a challenging period for Kerr. She signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea in June but has yet to return to the pitch due to injury. Additionally, in March, Kerr pleaded not guilty to charges of racially aggravated harassment involving a police officer in London. She is set to appear in court in February 2024.

The announcement has been met with widespread congratulations from fans and the footballing community. The couple’s news highlights a personal milestone in the lives of two athletes who continue to inspire on and off the field.
