England forward Bukayo Saka is set for further assessment after limping off during the Three Lions’ defeat to Greece on Thursday. The Arsenal No. 7 has left the national team training camp to be further assessed by his club’s medical team. The forward has been ruled out of England’s next Nations League fixture away to Norway.
According to the update given by interim England manager Lee Carsley, Saka may have picked up an injury to his leg. He said, “He’s been assessed but in the build-up to the first goal you could see he’d felt something in his leg.”
Since returning to Arsenal on Saturday morning, the England international has been undergoing further assessments by the club’s medical team to ascertain his status ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League fixture against Bournemouth on October 19.
The forward’s injury scare has had Arsenal fans worried seeing as he clutched the back of his right leg when he came off against Greece on Thursday. The Gunners are already dealing with the absence of their captain Martin Odegaard who also picked an injury during the last international break. Saka has been crucial for Arsenal in the opening weeks of the Premier League, getting seven starts in all seven games so far. The forward has scored twice while providing seven assists in as many Premier League games.
Saka has also been an important part of the English national team, featuring in the Three Lions’ run to the final at the Euro 2020 and Euro 2024. He was also instrumental in England’s run to the 2022 World Cup quarter-final in Qatar where they were beaten 2-1 by eventual finalists France.
Carsley will miss the forward in his lineup against Norway as he’ll be looking to steer the team back to winning ways. Carsley took charge of the senior national team on an interim basis following Gareth Southgate’s resignation. Southgate resigned after losing the 2024 Euro final to Spain, his second straight Euro final loss.
