Nigerian artist Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, has addressed one of the strangest rumors he has heard online: being labeled a “devil worshipper.”
In an interview with the ‘Kids Take Over’ podcast, the Afrobeats artist behind the global hit “Calm Down” was asked what the most outrageous misconception he had ever read about himself was.
“They say I worship the devil,” Rema said with a laugh. “It’s crazy. I didn’t respond because it’s not important. It’s a waste of time.”
The singer, who is known for mixing traditions into his art, stressed that the iconography some have misread is based on his Edo ancestry and has nothing to do with Satanism.
Rema also discussed his work with Canadian music icon Drake in 2020, which resulted in a song called “Mention Me” that was sadly leaked before its official release.
“I’m happy to work with a legend like Drake,” Rema said. “I feel like we are going to make a very huge song if we take our time to build something strong.”
