Manchester United are set to return to Hong Kong for the first time in 12 years as part of their post-season tour, the club announced on Tuesday.
The Red Devils will play two friendly matches in Asia just three days after concluding what has been a challenging Premier League campaign. Ruben Amorim’s men will wrap up their domestic season at Old Trafford against Aston Villa on May 25 before heading east for a short tour that includes fixtures in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
United will take on an ASEAN All-Star XI in the Malaysian capital on May 28, followed by a clash against a Hong Kong representative side on May 30. The Hong Kong team, currently ranked 153rd in the FIFA world rankings, is coached by former United academy player Ashley Westwood.
This marks the club’s first visit to Asia since 2022, when they faced Liverpool in a high-profile friendly in Thailand. Their last appearance in Hong Kong dates back to 2013, when they played as part of their pre-season preparations.
United, who sit 13th in the Premier League table, are aiming to bounce back from a disappointing season with renewed energy and global outreach. The club also confirmed its participation in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States ahead of the 2025–2026 season.
Club chief executive Omar Berrada emphasized the significance of the tour, stating, “Importantly, tour fixtures drive significant additional revenue which help make the club stronger, allowing us to keep investing in success on the pitch.”
Manchester United’s return to Hong Kong adds to a growing list of Premier League sides heading to Asia this summer. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool have all confirmed their own Hong Kong visits for July.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from United fans in Asia, many of whom are eager for a rare chance to see their heroes up close. With international interest in the club still strong, these friendlies are expected to draw packed stadiums and widespread media attention.
As United look to regroup and rebuild, this tour provides an opportunity to reconnect with their global fanbase—and perhaps, turn the page on a tough season.
