A representative for French football star Kylian Mbappé has condemned recent reports in the Swedish media alleging the Real Madrid forward is suspected of rape. The reports, citing police documents and filed criminal reports, have ignited a media frenzy, which Mbappé and his legal team have labeled as “totally false and irresponsible.”
Several Swedish outlets, including public broadcaster SVT and CNN affiliate *Expressen*, reported that Mbappé was under suspicion after visiting a nightclub and staying in Stockholm on October 10. Swedish police indicated that “reasonable grounds” exist, meaning specific circumstances suggest involvement in a crime.
In response, Mbappé took to social media, calling the reports “FAKE NEWS” and criticizing French outlet *RMC Sport* for amplifying the story, which they later removed. His representative expressed outrage, declaring that all necessary legal steps would be taken to defend Mbappé’s reputation against “unfounded insinuations.”
Mbappé’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, appeared on French TV to refute the claims, describing the allegations as “slanderous” and stressing that the footballer is calm but bewildered by the media storm. She emphasized that these reports have impacted him personally.
Real Madrid has yet to comment on the situation, but Mbappé is expected to return to the field this Saturday against Celta de Vigo, after missing France’s recent UEFA Nations League matches.
As the media attention intensifies, Mbappé’s legal team continues to push back, aiming to clear his name and hold those responsible for the accusations accountable.
