Former footballer Joey Barton is accused of kicking his wife, Georgia Barton, in the head during a drunken argument at their Kew home in June 2021, a court has heard.
Prosecutors at Westminster Magistrates’ Court allege that Barton, 42, pushed his wife, 38, to the ground and kicked her during a heated dispute after drinking with friends. The argument reportedly began over a family matter, with Barton threatening to fight his wife’s brother and father.
Prosecutor Helena Duong stated: “Mr. Barton grabbed her, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her in the head.” A friend who intervened was allegedly thrown aside by Barton, who said, “Don’t disrespect me.”
Mrs. Barton called 999 around 11:00 PM, reporting, “He’s in the house, I’m outside. He just hit me.” In the tearful call, she said she had been hit “in the face” and confirmed this was the first incident of its kind.
Police arrived 30 minutes later, and Mrs. Barton told officers, “I’ve been pushed down and kicked about.”
Barton, of Widnes, Cheshire, denies a single charge of assault by beating. The trial continues.
