Inter Milan’s struggling start to the season might be taking a worse turn as midfielder Nicolò Barella is set to miss upcoming games due to injury. The midfielder was taken off in the 74th minute of Inter’s 2-1 defeat to AC Milan in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina after suffering muscular discomfort. Upon further medical checks at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano, it was determined that he had picked up a thigh injury that would rule him out for the next few games.
Consequently, Barella will miss Inter’s next Serie A fixtures against Udinese and Torino. He will also miss the Nerazzuri’s Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade. However, he is expected to return after October’s international break in time for the Italian champions’ clash with Roma.
Barella has been an important part of Simone Inzaghi’s Inter side, bringing an explosive and creative energy to the Nerazzuri’s midfield. In the Italian’s absence, Simone will have to choose from several options to fill his role. His options include Piotr Zielinski, Davide Frattesi and Kristian Asllani.
Inter will be looking to improve their form in the coming games after gathering just eight points from their first five Serie A games this season. Inter lost to their city rivals Milan on Sunday for the first time since 2022, highlighting the team’s current struggles.
