Updates coming from Manchester City indicate that Spanish midfielder Rodri sustained a ligament injury during Sunday’s rivalry game against Arsenal. According to a report, it is not yet clear how serious the injury is and the midfielder may have the option to avoid surgery. It was earlier reported that the ACL tear suffered by the 28-year-old may rule him out for the rest of the season.
However, his recovery window may be between five to eight months depending on what his doctors decide. The club seems to be receiving varying medical opinions at the moment, as pointed out by the manager Pep Guardiola when he spoke to the BBC after City’s win over Watford in their Tuesday Carabao Cup match. He said, “One doctor says big, big injury. One not as much.”
Man City also released a statement on Rodri’s injury. It reads, “The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester. Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.”
Rodri was forced to come off in the 21st minute of the 2-2 draw against Arsenal on Sunday. Recall that the Spain international complained about the tightness of players’ schedule, suggesting they may consider a strike option. The midfielder was named the Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024 after helping Spain lift the trophy and is in contention for the Ballon d’Or. His absence will be a big blow to Guardiola’s team in their quest for their fifth successive Premier League title. The Spanish manager said, “he’s irreplaceable when you don’t play with the best player in the world. My duty is to find a solution, be competitive like many years and continue to be there
