Real Madrid earned all three points in a 2-0 victory over Villarreal on Saturday. However, the victory left a sour taste as Spanish right back Dani Carvajal left the game on a stretcher after a collision with Villareal’s Yeremy Pino, apparently in pain.
Carvajal later posted an update on his Instagram page confirming that he suffered an injury to his ACL, noting that he will soon undergo surgery. He wrote, “A serious cruciate ligament injury is confirmed, I am going to have to go under the knife and be out of the field for a few months. I’m already looking forward to starting the recovery and coming back like a beast. Thank you all very much for your messages, I feel very loved.”

Madrid have not published any medical update on Carvajal’s injury yet, but the defender may be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. Carvajal, who is set to turn 33 in January, has won 26 major titles since joining the Los Blancos first team in 2013. His absence will be critical for the team he has become an integral part of and Madrid may be looking to sign a new free agent right back as a matter of urgency to serve as a backup to Lucas Vasquez. Otherwise, they may wait until the winter transfer window to sign a player of choice.
Madrid caught up with Barcelona on 21 points with their win yesterday. However, the Blaugrana play at Alaves today before the next round of international games.
