Everton are preparing a January move for AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze as they look to strengthen their attack in the winter transfer window, The Merseyside club, currently 16th in the Premier League, aims to bolster their squad in a bid to avoid another relegation battle.

Chukwueze, who has been on Everton’s radar for some time, has struggled for regular playing time at Milan this season under coach Paolo Fonseca. Of his eight appearances in all competitions, six have come from the bench. This lack of consistent minutes has led to growing speculation about the Nigerian winger’s future at the San Siro, despite ending an eight-game goal drought with a crucial strike against Udinese on Saturday.

The 25-year-old winger joined AC Milan from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 for a reported €20 million plus bonuses, becoming the club’s most expensive signing that transfer window. However, Chukwueze has found it difficult to match the form that made him a standout player in La Liga, managing just four goals in 41 appearances for the Rossoneri.

Everton’s interest in Chukwueze coincides with significant changes behind the scenes. The Friedkin Group, known for their involvement in Italian football through ownership of AS Roma, are in the process of purchasing Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in Everton. This takeover could provide the financial muscle needed to bring high-profile players like Chukwueze to Goodison Park.

Manager Sean Dyche is said to be targeting a right-winger to bolster his attacking options, with Chukwueze and Argentine talent Santiago Castro both on the shortlist.

A move to Everton could offer Chukwueze a fresh start and the prospect of regular first-team football in the Premier League. The acquisition of a player with Chukwueze’s potential would also signal ambition from Everton’s prospective new owners, who are eager to steer the club away from the struggles of recent seasons and push them up the Premier League table.

In addition to Everton, Chukwueze has also been linked with other Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Aston Villa, as well as Atletico Madrid. Reports from Italy suggest Saudi Pro League clubs have also shown interest in the Nigerian star, widening his potential options for a move in the January transfer window.
