La Liga action returns this weekend after the international break with a series of interesting fixtures. Real Madrid is set to meet Celta Vigo on Saturday, with hopes of continuing with their form before the break. Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti addressed a pre-match press conference ahead of this fixture, highlighting important updates as his team prepares for a chance to overtake Barcelona at the top of the league table.
When the question came up about potential transfer deals for the team ahead of the winter window, he hammered strongly on his team’s strength, mentioning defender David Alaba’s impending return. He said, “If we need a suitable player for Real Madrid, we wouldn’t rule it out, but it’s not that simple. We have youth players who can contribute, the return of Alaba, who will soon be with the team… At the moment we’re not thinking about making any signings.”
The Los Blancos lost their starting right-back Dani Carvajal to a season-ending injury just before the break and must now continue their season in his absence. Ancelotti spoke on Carvajal’s injury and how the team is coping. He said, “First of all, we are very sorry for Dani, he is a very important piece. We lost him as a player in the next few months, but not as a leader in the dressing room, because he will be here and will work with us. We are going to take advantage of his strength and his head. We have worked well during this break. Many players have taken advantage of it to improve their physical condition. The internationals have returned in top form. We have good feelings for tomorrow’s match against a good team. I see the players more motivated.”
The Italian tactician confirmed some of the returnees from international duties are in doubt for Saturday’s game as they will be evaluated ahead after training today.
Kylian Mbappe is another important player who has been missing in action for Madrid due to injury. However, the Frenchman has made progress in his recovery during the break, according to the Madrid boss who remarked, “This break has been good for him and I see him doing very well.” He added that the forward is close to 100%.
He went on to express confidence in his team, evaluating their performance to be better than it had been earlier in the season. He said, “We can play better than we have in recent times. An important moment of the season is coming, we have very strong rivals in the Champions League and the League and we are going into it with good feelings.”
