Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate on Thursday met privately with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed at the Ramat House in Bauchi.
While details of their discussion remain undisclosed, the high-level meeting has fueled speculation about possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Both leaders are expected to address the media after their deliberations.
The meeting brings together a key opposition figure from the LP and a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding to the ongoing political maneuvers among Nigeria’s opposition parties.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential race, trailed behind Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and the eventual winner, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu won 12 states and secured 8,794,726 votes—almost two million more than Atiku, who garnered 6,984,520.
Obi, whose rapid rise in the political scene energized young voters, won in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory, amassing 6,101,533 votes.
Meanwhile, Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) finished fourth with 1,496,687 votes, securing victory only in Kano State.
Amid discussions about forming a formidable coalition to challenge the APC in 2027, opposition figures have been engaging in strategic talks.
Recently, Atiku has been seen with Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other political influencers, fueling further speculation about potential alliances.
Earlier this week, El-Rufai exited the ruling APC and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a departure from the party’s founding principles.
His defection adds another layer of intrigue to Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
