In the bid to find a solution to the crisis rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly, leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, within and outside the state are considering either Mr David Setonji from Badagry or Wale Rauf from Amuwo Odofin to step in as the speaker of the House.
Both lawmakers are from Lagos West Senatorial District, where the ousted Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, hails from.

The need to allow any of the duo to become the speaker is for political balancing in the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is from Lagos Central Senatorial District, just like Mojisola Meranda, the person elected to replace Obasa.
New Daily Prime gathered that serious pressure has been mounted on Sanwo-Olu since Obasa’s removal, and the emergence of Meranda.

On the day Obasa was removed, Meranda, the then Deputy Speaker was pushed forward to take the position of speaker.
That was done as lawmakers from Lagos West reportedly turned down the offer to become the speaker.
From the look of things, Meranda might be asked to revert to her former position of deputy speaker.

Sources said President Bola Tinubu, while not opposed to the lawmakers choosing their own leaders, emphasized the need for political balancing.
The Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, a body of APC leaders in Lagos State, has been deeply polarized since the removal of Obasa.
Obasa is on court challenging his removal from office.
