Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appointed two-time former world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, as the state’s Sports Ambassador.
The announcement was made on the governor’s X page following Joshua’s visit to the Government House in Abeokuta yesterday.
Abidoun wrote, “As a gesture of our collective pride and recognition of his contributions to sports, we were delighted to present him with a letter appointing him as a Sports Ambassador for Ogun State. This appointment underscores our commitment to celebrating excellence and supporting individuals who bring honour and pride to our state.

“Together, we look forward to Anthony Joshua achieving even greater victories and continuing to be a beacon of inspiration for Ogun State and beyond.”
The governor praised Joshua’s outstanding accomplishments in the world of boxing, noting that they continue to inspire millions, including the people of the state.
He highlighted that Joshua’s dedication, discipline, and excellence reflect the core values upheld by the state.
The boxer was joined by some of his family members during the special courtesy visit.
Governor Abiodun announced plans to construct a new indoor boxing ring, which will be named after Joshua.
He also revealed that the 35-year-old boxer will ignite the Gateway Games National Sports Festival torch, which has been rescheduled to May next year.
