Citing mischief ,the All Progressives Congress (APC) has tackled the former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi following his New Year press conference, where he criticised the political, economic, security, and healthcare situations in Nigeria.

Obi during the conference expressed concerns that the country’s political, economic, and security conditions continue to worsen daily, despite government assertions of progress in various sectors.

In response to the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), APC ‘s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka that Obi’s eight-year tenure as governor of Anambra State left behind no notable achievements, let alone any transformative progress.

The APC reiterated that under President Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s economy was experiencing a significant recovery across multiple sectors.

“It is a thing of irony that Peter Obi, now arogates to himself to be omniscient and philosopher’s stone when it comes to our nation’s challenges.

“Like his co-travellers in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Obi’s obsessive pessimism and endless but futile effort to incite public outrage against the administration is borne out of their realization that Tinubu is unwittingly cementing their ultimate political irrelevance by his visionary and full-throttle reform and transformation of the fundamental pillars of our national life”, the statement added.

The party stressed that Tinubu has been diligently turning the nation’s fortunes around and deserves the support and patience of Nigerians to consolidate the solid economic foundation he has laid, ensuring the delivery of a vibrant and prosperous new Nigeria for the benefit of all.

APC further urged Nigerians to stay confident in the brighter days ahead.

“While Nigerians celebrated the new year with hope for a more glorious 2025, Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, was seemingly stuck in a replay of his jangling, gloom-ridden wish list for our country.”

The party described Obi’s New Year message as misleading, suggesting it was intended to score cheap political points

APC pointed out that during the 18 months, Tinubu has been in office, the economy has made steady progress, marked by massive trade surpluses and the creation of trillions in stock market wealth.

Additionally, the party emphasized that there has been a surge in foreign direct investments due to growing confidence in the economy, an increase in foreign reserves, and a significant decline in the debt servicing ratio, which dropped from 90 per cent to around 64 per cent.

“Higher incomes for farmers; massive increase in federal allocation to states and local governments; deliberate and patriotic efforts to plug leakages and shore up the nation’s revenue base; restart of moribund PortHarcourt and Warri refineries; remarkable improvement in oil production and export of petroleum products; the decimation of terrorist leaders and improvement in the security situation, and numerous other measures to meet the $1trillion economy target of this administration.

“Despite these and other initial beneficial outcomes of ongoing unprecedented reforms, the administration is doubling its effort to ensure that the reforms deliver their fullest benefits for the sustainable growth and transformation of our country.

“In his New Year message, President Tinubu acknowledged that the “cost of food and essential drugs remained a significant concern for many Nigerian households.” To reverse this trend, Mr President assured that his administration was committed to lowering food prices by boosting food production and promoting local production of drugs.

“Mindful of the threat that the current inflation rate poses to our economy, President Tinubu had also vowed to crash it from 34 per cent to 15 per cent in this fiscal year.

“With the vigour in the administration’s war on corruption, evidenced by ongoing investigations and trial of well-heeled Nigerians, Obi’s pontification on the urgent need to tame corruption is a clear case of carrying coal to Newcastle”, added the statement.
