Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to inspire Nigeria’s youth by presenting a compelling and transformative 30-year vision for the country. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme on Saturday, Adeyemi emphasized the importance of visionary leadership in fostering sustainable development and changing the nation’s trajectory.
“Mr. President needs to come with pictures, 3D of what Nigeria will be like in 30 years’ time,” Pastor Adeyemi said. He argued that no leader can create lasting change without first shifting the mindset of the people. “You cannot shift the people’s culture without shifting their beliefs and mindset,” he added.
Drawing from his experiences, Adeyemi shared a story about a former governor who struggled with resistance to the concept of vision within his administration. The former governor confided, “Brother Sam, my biggest problem is not infrastructure.” Despite celebrating over two years in office with several physical achievements, the governor revealed that his primary challenge was the mindset of his team. He described an instance where a cabinet member dismissed his focus on vision, saying, “The governor will just be talking about vision. Will we eat vision?” This attitude, Adeyemi noted, reflects the deep-seated cultural challenge of valuing short-term gains over long-term planning.
The former governor lamented that even members of his state executive team did not understand or prioritize the importance of vision. “They don’t value vision; they are just looking for what they want to eat, talk less of the citizens,” he reportedly said. Adeyemi explained that this mindset is one of the key obstacles to creating sustainable change, as it hinders progress and fosters a culture of immediate gratification.
Adeyemi stressed that vision is essential for human development, providing clarity, direction, and purpose for individuals, organizations, and societies. He highlighted how vision drives progress by inspiring and motivating people, fostering creativity and resilience, and promoting unity and collaboration. Vision, he argued, is the cornerstone of human development, enabling individuals and societies to achieve their full potential and transform aspirations into reality.
By presenting a clear and inspiring picture of Nigeria’s future, Adeyemi believes President Tinubu can ignite a cultural shift that will not only inspire the youth but also catalyze innovation and sustainable development. As Nigeria faces numerous challenges, Adeyemi’s call serves as a powerful reminder that visionary leadership is vital for building a prosperous future.
