Children across Nigeria are eagerly penning their letters to Santa Claus, hoping to receive their heart’s desires this holiday season. The New Daily Prime conducted random interviews with children from Agege (Lagos State), Kuba (FCT Abuja), Calabar Street (Kaduna) , Rumukoro, Port Harcourt, Owerri (Imo State) and Airport road (Enugu State) through telephone calls arranged with their parents. Parental consent was obtained before the children spoke with the media.
Filled with excitement and joy, many of these children were delighted to share their wishes for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. From toys and games to clothes, gadgets, and shared experiences, their heartfelt desires offer a glimpse into the aspirations and dreams of Nigerian kids in 2024.
Toys and Games: Nurturing Creativity and Fun
For many children, toys remain at the top of their Christmas wish lists. “I want a new Lego set,” says 8-year-old Tunde from Lagos. “I love building things and creating new structures.” His younger sister, Nneoma, 6, shares her wish for imaginative play, asking for a Barbie doll. “I want a doll that looks like me,” she says with a smile.
Parents emphasize the importance of toys in fostering creativity. “Toys are not just playthings,” says Mrs. Oladipo, a mother from Lagos. “They help children dream and grow.”

With the growing influence of technology in Nigeria, many children’s Christmas wishes center around gadgets. “I want a tablet to play games and watch videos,” says 10-year-old Chukwuemeka from Abuja. While many children dream of material gifts, others prioritize shared experiences. “I want to go to the zoo and see the animals,” says 5-year-old Ifeoma from Enugu. Her brother, Ikenna, 8, hopes to visit a theme park and ride roller coasters.
