The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has described reports surrounding Samuel Anyanwu’s appeal as misleading, insisting that no valid suspension was ever in place.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, under the leadership of Abdurahman Mohammed, clarified that although Anyanwu filed an appeal, it was unrelated to any disciplinary action.
The PDP has been embroiled in a prolonged internal crisis, with factions emerging within the party. One camp, led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), is backed by Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, while the opposing faction under Abdurahman Mohammed enjoys the support of Wike.
Addressing the controversy, Mohammed said the disciplinary committee chaired by Tom Ikimi merely recommended a suspension, which was never adopted or ratified by the party’s National Working Committee or National Executive Committee.
“The party categorically states that these reports are misleading and lack proper context. While it is true that Senator Anyanwu filed an appeal, it is important to clarify that the appeal was not against any suspension,” he said.
He explained that the original suit filed at the FCT High Court challenged the competence of the disciplinary committee, not any suspension.
“It must be emphasised that the Tom Ikimi Disciplinary Committee merely recommended a suspension. This recommendation was never considered, adopted, or ratified… As such, it had no binding effect, and no valid suspension existed at any time,” Mohammed added.
He further noted that the committee’s recommendations were later discarded after it was found to have been constituted in violation of the party’s constitution.
According to him, the court, presided over by Yusuf Halilu, did not affirm any suspension but instead dismissed the case on jurisdictional grounds, ruling that internal party matters are not subject to judicial review.
Mohammed also disclosed that the appeal filed on April 10, 2026, has now been directed to be withdrawn as it is no longer necessary.
He added that the party’s National Caretaker Committee had earlier been upheld by a Federal High Court in Ibadan, while the March 2026 national convention was conducted in line with valid court rulings and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The faction urged the public and party members to disregard the reports, describing them as distortions aimed at creating confusion within the party.
