    Tinubu constitutes governing council for Federal University in Ogoni

    President Bola Tinubu has announced key appointments to the Federal University of Environment and Technology, situated in Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.

    These appointments include the institution’s Pro-Chancellor, members of its Governing Council, and principal officers, paving the way for the university to welcome its inaugural students in September 2025.

    Professor Don Mon Baridam, a distinguished Professor of Management specialising in Organisational Behaviour and formerly of the University of Port Harcourt, has been named the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.

    Also hailing from the South-South region, Professor Chinedu Mmom, a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management at the University of Port Harcourt and a former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, will assume the role of Vice-Chancellor.

    The newly constituted Governing Council brings together a diverse group of individuals from across Nigeria. Its members include Emmanuel Onoja representing the North Central, Hamid Adekunle from the South West, Professor Chima Oji representing the South East, and Abdullahi Lamda from the North West

    In addition to the Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, Tinubu has appointed a team of professionals to crucial administrative positions.

    Dr Mpigi Douglas, from the South-South, has been appointed as the Registrar.

    Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie, from the North Central, will serve as the Bursar, and Dr Saghanen Ntogo G. B., also from the South-South, will be the Librarian.

    The establishment of the university was formalised when Tinubu signed its enabling bill into law on February 3.

    This development marks a new chapter for higher education in the region, with the institution poised to begin academic activities in just over a month.
