A public analyst and media entrepreneur, Dr Joseph Effiong has lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its unwavering commitment to fighting corruption, citing the commission’s efforts in the ongoing case involving embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
Effiong said EFCC’s doggedness in pursuing justice and accountability in a high-profile case of such ignites hopes in present government and the rule of law.
Bello is facing multiple corruption charges, including money laundering. He is presently being held on remand after reporting to the EFCC earlier in the week.
Effiong particularly lauded the EFCC’s helmsman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede for demonstrating true leadership in the matter, adding that his approach exemplified a proactive approach to combating financial crimes.
” He has indeed fostered a greater public trust in the commission’s mission. His determination relays a strong message that no one is above the law”, he stated.
Effiong expressed the hope that Bello’s case will send a clear signal against corruption at all levels of government, while urging transparency and rigor in the proceedings to ensure justice.
He asserted that expectations were high of EFCC to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s financial systems and restore faith in the country’s institutions.
“This is a test of our judicial system’s commitment to fighting corruption. We hope that the courts will deliver justice and restore Nigerians’ faith in the system. I believe also that this case will set a precedent for future generations,” he stated.
