Social media figure, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan is scheduled to appear in court on Friday (today) over allegations of impersonation levelled against him by the police.
A recent viral video in which VeryDarkMan was seen in Nigeria Police Force uniforms has irked the police who say VDM will have to explain why he wore the uniform “without authorization.”
The police in a statement from the FCT command, which is spearheading the prosecution, condemned VeryDarkMan in the recently released video, where he described himself as CSP VeryDarkMan and Nigeria’s “number one online police officer.”
According to the release, the Police say the force place a high premium on maintaining the integrity of its uniforms and preventing unauthorized usage.
The public is encouraged to stay informed as the case progresses in court.
The NPF’s statement read, “Martins Otse is set to appear in court today following allegations of impersonation related to the unauthorised use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a viral social media video.
“The FCT Police Command is actively handling the case, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its symbols and preventing their misuse.
“Interested persons are encouraged to follow up on the proceedings as the case unfolds.”
Meanwhile, VeryDarkMan was detained by police on Thursday after responding to an official summons.
Although VDM’s offence was not spelt out, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, said he was detained in a post on X on Thursday.
Adeyanju disclosed that his client had honoured a similar invitation on Wednesday.
His post read, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”
