Two Chinese workers killed, 20 others burnt in Abuja explosion

The tragic tanker explosion near the Nyanya Bridge in Abuja has consumed the lives of two staff members of a Chinese construction company, named WE Construction.

According to reports, the explosion also left more than 20 other staff of the company with varying degrees of injuries.

The accident occurred around 6:58pm on Wednesday when a Dangote trailer, heavily loaded with cement, lost control while approaching Nyanya Bridge from AYA and crashed into stationary vehicles trapped in the traffic.

The impact ignited a massive inferno, causing panic among bystanders and motorists.

It was learnt that one of the deceased staff members died at the Asokoro Hospital, while the other were being treated for their injuries at the National Hospital.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, representatives from WE Construction, stated that two of their workers had died and more than 20 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

One of them said, “We lost two workers, and 20 others sustained injuries. As I speak to you now, I have been receiving calls about two individuals I have not yet seen. They are not necessarily missing, but their families have informed me that they are injured. However, some of the injured have been taken to hospitals that may be out of my reach, making it difficult to track them.”

The representative added that he had been working tirelessly across Abuja since the incident to coordinate with hospitals and families of the affected staff.

“I have been working across almost the entire city of Abuja since the incident occurred,” he said.
