President Bola Tinubu will on Sunday depart Abuja for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit. The event, is scheduled to hold in the South American nation.

The summit will gather world leaders to discuss critical global issues.  

In a statement, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, noted that the President’s attendance follows an invitation from Brazil’s President and current G20 Chair, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.  

The Summit will take place from Monday, November 18, to Tuesday, November 19, and will feature leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, including the European Union, the African Union, and key multilateral financial institutions.  

Under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” this year’s discussions will focus on combating hunger and poverty, reforming global governance institutions, advancing sustainable development, and ensuring a smooth energy transition.  

Nigeria, a longstanding advocate for the reform of global governance institutions, will use the platform to reaffirm its aspirations for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.  

President Tinubu is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Summit to further Nigeria’s socio-economic reform agenda.  

The President’s delegation includes several top government officials: Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development, Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security and Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, Director General of the National Intelligence Agency  

President Tinubu will return to Nigeria upon the conclusion of his visit.
