Soldier knocks down elderly man, flees

A yet-to-be-identified military personnel reportedly knocked down an elderly man with a motorcycle at the Moshalashi bus stop in the Mushin area of Lagos State on Thursday and fled the scene.

It was gathered that the elderly man was crossing the road when the incident occurred.

The victim sustained a broken leg as a result of the accident.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, attributed the accident to the recklessness of the military personnel involved.

“Upon arrival at 0843hrs, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team discovered an incident involving an elderly man who was hit by a motorcycle. The rider immediately escaped from the scene of the incident.

“Information gathered revealed that the elderly man was crossing the road when he was reportedly knocked down by a motorcycle ridden by a military personnel.

“Preliminary investigations conducted by the Agency’s Response Team revealed the immediate cause of the incident was as a result of recklessness on the part of the biker,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The victim is currently receiving medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yaba.

“The Agency’s response team and LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit gave the victim immediate treatment at the incident scene to stabilize his condition, before being transported to Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Yaba for further treatment,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
