Vice President Kashim Shettima has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Swedish telecommunications giant, Ericsson.
He pledged the swift implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both parties in 2024.
Shettima made the pledge yesterday during a courtesy visit by a high-level Ericsson delegation to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The delegation was led by the company’s Senior Vice President and Head of Market Area for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Mr. Patrick Johansson.
Describing Ericsson as an integral part of Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, Shettima recalled the company’s early contributions to the country’s tech ecosystem, laying the groundwork for other global players.
He commended the firm for its continued support, especially its investment in innovation hubs such as those operated by SchoolTry, and its empowerment of small businesses across the nation.
“Ericsson has kept faith with Nigeria, not just as a commercial partner, but as a collaborator in our shared story of growth and transformation,” Shettima said.
“We cherish our relationship with Sweden and your company, and I urge you to harness the vast potential of our nation. With a tech-savvy, youthful population and a growing number of African unicorns based in Nigeria, the future is here.”
Johansson, in his remarks, expressed Ericsson’s desire to strengthen its collaboration with Nigeria, focusing on grassroots innovation and entrepreneurship.
He emphasised that Nigeria holds a special place in the company’s global footprint.
Also speaking, Vice President and Head of Customer Units for West and South Africa at Ericsson Middle East & Africa, Majda Lahlou Kassi, reaffirmed the company’s belief in Nigeria’s future and the opportunities it presents for expanding digital culture and market growth.
Other members of the visiting team included Mr Efosa Aigbe, Ericsson’s Director of Public Affairs, Government and Industry Relations, and a Senior Solutions Architect at the company.
